We’re gonna need bigger brakes.
But first, let’s rewind it back a few weeks to when we finally applied our signature Regal Signature Series (RSS) Raider Decal pack to our Golf 7R. This is a tip of our hat to the original decals installed on Chris Stewart’s Yellow Astra Van with a turbocharged and water charge cooled C20XE, long before the C20LET was available.

Anyway, back to what you’re really reading this post for. Big brakes. But why do we need them if the previous combination was so good? The Tarox Discs, Tarox Brake Lines, Castrol SRF Brake Fluid and Pagid RSL2 Brake Pads was a perfect combination for the street street and worked well under track use.
However, thanks to the refinements in chassis setup and ever increasing power resulting in greater braking zone entry speeds, the stock sized brake system was really coming to its limit. Struggling to dissipate the heat generated.
Resulting in some cracks to the brake disc, whilst small cracks are to be expected with track use, the line you can see going from the edge to centre is of concern.
With the disc expanding so much so that contact had been made with the backing plate.
not to mention the OE brake calliper environmental seals were now ruined and requiring refurbishment to ensure performance and service life is as expected.
So, it was more of a reliability perspective we opted for a brake upgrade, but we will of course welcome a leap in performance.
In-step Tarox. Tarox provided us with their top of the line Super Sport brake kit, consisting of 8 piston callipers matched to 360mm discs. All fitting snug underneath the factory 18″ wheels which are still installed on our Golf 7R.
With their much larger size and two piece design these brakes will be better suited to sustained track use for long periods of time, unlike the stock setup. We opted for a racing spec pad at the same time, which when cold does generate some noise, however once heated up they offer a crazy level of stopping power. Also available are a street pad, which works perfectly from cold and is quiet in operation.
Once fitted the Tarox brake kit really does look the part, we can’t wait to put these to the test at Castle Combe this weekend!
